Lilly – Bakery

The waves dance in the cove when I step from the boat onto the sturdy dock. The gull calls in the air sing while the smells from the waterfront tickle my senses. Up the stone stairs and through the gates I find the city welcoming. The streets are clean and the lone guard who attends the gate is welcoming enough, if not just a little argumentative. I make my way to the cafe where I bake goods for the populous. The air fills with the sweet scents of the promise of tasty treats baking within, it seeps out into the streets surrounding the cafe with it’s own call to come and taste. A friendly tal greets all who stop in, lively conversation over a cup of tea and scone or ramberry tart or three. Be careful not to overeat! Slaves run in and out the back door to get their owner’s orders while I keep the street side seating area clean and well equipped for the day’s traffic. At the end of the day coin is made and the cafe shuts down for the evening and my steps turn me towards my small apartment for some much needed rest. All are welcome at my cafe, just as all are welcome at Temos, my home.

Milena Orsino – Scribe

Mornings are quiet, merchants are starting the day, setting up their shops with wares to be sold. The streets slowly start to come to life as one walks the steps towards the scribe hall. Within there are a few caste members already toiling with tasks, preparing scrolls and ensuring supplies are on hand. One would not want to be caught with no ink or parchment to prepare registrations or a much needed Free companionship contract.

The rest of the morning is spent assisting citizens until it is time for a break, where one may then wander down to the bakery for a treat. At the bakery one can engage in conversation with other citizens of the city or perhaps visitors. Slaves are at the ready to serve, the clink and clank of dishes heard, mingled with the voices of Free and slave alike.

The afternoon is spent much the same, returning to the scribe hall with yet more work, until the lamps outside start to sparkle in the evening. At such time Scribes start to retire, some heading home for the night, others staying to get the last bit of work completed, and a few go out for some supper with friends.

A stroll back home is pleasant, with the backdrop of the starry night sky above. At this time one can simply admire the scenery around, the city filled with gardens and greenery about. Temos starts to die down after a long day, lights through windows starting to dim until finally one reaches home and sweet slumber calls, ending another day.
